The door to Club Ocha's hidden sketching room, papered with posters, in a yellow basement corridor

Workshop

Out of hand

With
DIG Dubai
Where
Club Ocha, Dubai

A really cool sketching session organised by DIG Dubai at Club Ocha — hidden away in a room in a basement car park. Even finding the place was part of the adventure.

Great atmosphere, lots of people from the creative industry, sketching, chatting and swapping ideas.

For the sketch itself, I decided to challenge my habits. Being a lefty, I did the entire sketch with my right hand, letting go of control and precision. Then I switched back to my left hand and a black Sharpie to fill in the blacks.

Awkward, spontaneous, imperfect — and a lot of fun. Sometimes creativity starts when you stop doing things the way you normally do.

The GUNK sketching workshop poster: a spiky-haired cartoon face on a clipboard, Friday 14, Make weird art, meet weird people

Workshop

Back to back

With
GUNK
Where
A hidden location, Dubai

GUNK invited us for a sketching session. We sat back to back with a stranger and chatted while sketching their face.

For the next one, we had to imagine them as an object, or an abstraction. Such a cool crowd, and an interesting workshop.

Sketching session by DIG Dubai at Club Ocha. Such a nice crowd — thank you, DIG Dubai.

The still life was a bunch of flowers. The drawing grew an eye.

Angelic Smile, a mixed media assemblage: a laughing girl at the centre of cut paper, patterns, hands, flowers and fragments

New work

Angelic Smile

Some souls change the world without ever trying. Their light is found in a smile, their strength in their innocence, and their greatest gift is the joy they awaken in others.

This mixed media assemblage is a celebration of that rare kind of spirit. Every fragment, texture and layer represents moments, emotions and possibilities brought together by a single radiant presence.

Joy is not the absence of challenges. It is the courage to bloom despite them.

It is a tribute to the quiet strength of a father, and to the extraordinary daughter who reminds him — and all of us — that the brightest light often shines through the purest smile.

Workshop

Pass the panel

With
DIG Dubai × Hobb

The second Pass The Panel, organised by DIG Dubai and Hobb. A challenging one — and a very good exercise for storytelling and imagination.

Turnaround, a collage: a transparent glass head in profile beside a woman's face, under arches and a red sky

New work

Turnaround

We are both becoming. A change in pattern. A change in perspective. A change in light. The flowers bloom. The colours deepen. The glass becomes transparent.

Sometimes the most beautiful transformations are not loud. They happen quietly, through trust, patience, and the gradual opening of two worlds.

The glass figure stands for transparency, reflection, and a shift in mindset — a conscious choice to see things differently. The architecture, sky and curved forms speak of movement and new directions. The feminine presence is both real and symbolic: beauty, mystery, warmth, playfulness.

Growth does not happen alone. Sometimes it comes through connection, patience, trust, and the courage to let a relationship mature naturally.

A figure-drawing session by DIG Dubai at The Jam Jar, Alserkal Avenue. Beautiful crowd.

I hadn't done this since my art course in college — you don't want to know when that was. So much fun. We want more and more of this, please.
